Events
The group discusses their next steps for the Serpent’s Coil. They decide now is not the time to save Samugi, they need to get more information on what is going on in the Serpent Lord Shrine. Cassius is drawn there by The Traveler’s warning, Shar because of what happened to her last group at the Serpent Lord Shrine, and Sundara because of Solonor.
They return to The Icebreaker to strategize. Shar provides a map of the Serpents Lord Shrine, but refuses to discuss in depth why she has it. They look over the map and try and figure out what options they have.
Sundara asks Otiluke for help, and he teleports to the ship. He tells them that at the Shrine they feed prisoners nectar that results in mind control. Once used for all they are worth, they are sacrificed them.
After a tense exchange between Shar and Otiluke, they reveal their shared past. The two were once adventuring companions, traveling alongside a woman named Trossandra, who later became Benzosia. She betrayed them for her love of a fallen aasimar.
Allara ruminates on the name Benzosia and cast Legend Lore. The group learns that Benzosia was one of the first devils, one of the Prime Evils. She was originally a celestial who pursued her father, Asmodeus, into the Nine Hells, only to rebel against him and fall in love with a mortal named Levistus. In response, Asmodeus scattered her memories and existence across time and space. Levistus, in turn, stormed the Nine Hells to kill Asmodeus, but their battle ended in a stalemate.
Otiluke then warns Cas that the beating Heart of Karsus lies beneath the Serpent Lord Shrine and he fears what will happen if Benzosia gets access to it.
The group considers whether to take over or ally with the nearby FETC encampment. Otiluke shares that over there they are doing research on exarchs—beings created outside the natural order of evolution. Ultimately, they decide to fly to the deserted area nearby and survey the surroundings.
Sundara cast, Scry on Solonor and, using crude illusions, shows Shar and Otiluke what she sees. Solonor is near a set of ruins, but they can’t determine if it’s the Serpent Lord Shrine, the Mausoleum of Smdul, Ziggurat Nirandr, or the Ruins of Gahn.
Passing through the Delmiri Desert, they drop off Gin Bon 4 to Ironsoul, who states they are known as ‘mungshin’. Iron Soul notes that he was Gin Bon 1 and takes in Gin Bon 4 on his path to enlightenment.
They make it to the deserted encampment, executing a organized jump from the moving ship. As they land they encounter a smaller seemingly abandoned FETC airship. A massive six headed snake-like creature appears and rushes Varrick. Battle erupts.
During the battle Cassisus clearly doesn’t care if he dies, getting frustrated at the groups attempts to keep him alive stating that he’s got, “plans.” Shar investigates a body and finds a letter regarding the ‘shrine’s heart.‘
