Backstory
Samugi hails from an area north of Kozah, part of the Hangul Dynasty. Known historically as King Chedong, the King of the Black Sky, he was the unifier of the Hangul Dynasty. His reign was marked was in part due to alliances with the Oni, which secured his power. Samugi himself was connected to an Oni, whom he befriended but later saw as a reflection of his darker self.
After disappearing roughly 15 years ago, King Chedong’s fate became shrouded in mystery, with rumors claiming he made a deal with a devil, went mad, or was assassinated. His brother, General Jugaem, did not ascend to the throne, leaving his nephew Mujin as the de facto leader, though the previous king was never officially declared dead. Samugi lived in isolation for centuries, part of a monastery and fellowship of monks. He believed his powers originated from a curse. In an attempt to sever the bond with his Oni, he tried to kill it but was framed for murder and subsequently sent to Ironford Prison.
The demon Oni that Samugi knew attacked him in the Delmiri Desert and told Samugi that he would take away what he found most precious. (Session 06 and 07). Recently, Hangul Gnomes have sought his return, recognizing him as their rightful ruler. They forcibly crowned him, transforming him into The King of the Black Sky, reigniting his connection to the Oni and his tumultuous past.
Prior Events
Signed a lease for a shitty apartment in New Calim on Fey Paper (Session 13). Spent one night working at the Clockwork Factory where the sentinels were made (Session 21). Samugi spent time in battle tinkering with a Clockwork troll and starts to have a higher understanding of clockwork devices built by Solonor (Session 26). His power was pivotal in the battle against the Phaerimm on the groups travel to Valendri. Upon grabbing the Staff of Rivers and Wind, he had a vision of defeating Aurunat, The Inevitable and then confronting Ironsoul in a cave in the desert (Session 39). Once the group found Ironsoul and defeated him, he gave his silks to Samugi.
Current Events
Samugi discreetly hired a crew to retrieve the cursed crown that Varrick threw into the ocean. After returning to the Hangul Dynasty, Samugi learned that the Oni spirits influenced the ruling class and that his Oni was revealed to be the source of his abilities, and he may be inextricably tied to it. He sought help from Allara, who broke the curse within his crown but warned that wearing it remains dangerous.
Before Duke Oswald Beaumont moved to attack the Mortal Promise, Samugi proposed using his status as King Chedong to request a royal audience to avert the Queen’s attack, Dunsparrow Beaumont advised that he solidify his rule before asking for an audience.
