Demon Oni “Dokkaebi”
The Oni are a group of spiritual beings originally created by Vaprack the Destroyer to eradicate civilization and culture, targeting the non-dokkaebi individuals specifically. Among Vaprack’s children, one rebelled, aspiring to work alongside mortals instead of fulfilling their destructive purpose. As punishment, Vaprack cursed his rebellious son and his descendants to wander the planes as feeble old men, eternally at war with each other.
On first learning about the Oni, Samugi described that his connection to the Oni began as a personal bond with one particular entity. This Oni became his reflection, marking his arms with matching sigils and granting him extraordinary abilities. Samugi had a moment of recollection at the oasis in the Alhadria Desert, sensing an important cosmetic lineage tied to the Oni, though the details remained unclear. He described how the Oni didn’t like the sight of blood, would cook meat until it was charred, and had a desire to possess magical artifacts.
One Oni possessed a companion in their group, Thaunia, who left after The Remnants were unable to help her. On leaving the Oni told Samugi that he would destroy what mattered most to him. Various Oni have intermittently followed Samugi, appearing in cursed artifacts and hiring enemies to confront him and his companions.
In an unexpected twist, Samugi uncovered evidence that the Oni within him was the source of his abilities, and he began to understand the complex and symbiotic relationship they share. He realized that for the last 100 years its likely that Oni have been ruling The Hangul Dynasty.
