Cassius wakes up the from his dream where he talked with Alexi Faraday who requested the Pieces of The Inevitable, Cas begins stress preparing for danger. Dunsparrow comes into Cas’s room and ask him if he has her back and he says, “Of course, without a doubt.”

Cas, Sundara, Samugi, and Cobb meet up for breakfast. Cas tells them how he thinks he pissed off Faraday. Cas obviously appears stressed and on edge and wants to come up with a plan. They invite Otiluke Organdorf over to breakfast to ask him questions about the Pieces. He muses that maybe a Terrasque could digest and disenchant an item, but is otherwise not super helpful.

They decide to go shopping for magical components in New Calim with Otiluke. They make it to the Mortal Promise where Cassius reunites with his family. He has a lute contest with his father who tells him that Chalice Manath was eyeing his girlfriend again. Cas confronts Chalice about this, thinking that Chalice was going after Dunsparrow. She confirms that she has absolutely no interest in her and has only stolen his girlfriend one time.

Natasha shows up and tells them Barrel Back Bill has been teaching her to shoot a crossbow in exchange for keeping it a secret that he is selling magical items behind Sarah Stoneheart’s back. Sundara gets upset at him for involving Natasha and convinces him to come clean to Sarah. He admits that the the situation was more that Natasha was extorting him to get what she wanted. Natasha asks Sundara to tell Varrick how good she is at shooting a crossbow.

Cas and Sundara visit Solonor’s Workshop. Cas and Sundara visit Solonor’s Workshop. Sundara exchanges words with The Engineer, Anastasia who was leaving and appears to dislike Sundara. Sundara uses the clockwork key to get into the workshop. While there, they look at clockwork devices floating in the workshop, some made by previous apprentices and some by Sundara. Cas’ eye is drawn to a beautiful clockwork xylophone/harp created by someone named Aelion (and this name was erased from Cas’ memory almost immediately without his knowledge).

Cas, Sundara, and Solonor sit down and discuss their reason for visiting. They discuss destroying the Pieces of The Inevitable. Solonor offers instead to hold the Pieces and use them to eventually recreate Aurunat, The Inevitable. Solonor thinks that if he reanimates The Inevitable it will defend the heart of Karsus. Cassius sends a subtle spell message to Sundara stating that this might be a good idea, out loud Sundara says, “I trust him. I do.”

Cas steps away to go to the library. Sundara and Solonor discuss his plans against Faraday. He shows her a new clockwork sentinel that is able to use some sort of antimagic energy to fight a displacer beast.

While in this cavern Sundara confronts Solonor and ask if he gets romantically involved with his apprentices often. He says it has only happened once. Solonor ask if Sundara wants him to get rid of Anastasia. Sundara tells him how she will not share him, Solonor tells her that he loves only her.

Sundara asks if she is delaying his plans while she travels around with The Remnants. Their foreheads touch and he admits to her that he was initially obsessive and pushy about her magical development and that he didn’t need to be because she developed into a powerful sorcerer in her own way. He tells her he isn’t worried about what she told him regarding the Phaerimm and her sickness, because he knew that he wouldn’t let that happen to her. Sundara hears his voice echoing in her head and notices he is casting a high level spell. She is unable to make out the words until Solonor collapses in her arms and she finally makes out the words of his incantation, “I wish.”
