Mechanus rarely interacts directly with other planes; however, it exerts its influence across the multiverse through The Inevitable, the last known one being Aurunat, an entity that emerges only to correct cosmic imbalances that threaten the stability of the universe. The belief is that Aurunat acts on behalf of Mechanus itself, ensuring the preservation of balance.

Historically, Mechanus faced an internal crisis after a powerful demon prince, Orcus, infiltrated the plane. Orcus managed to corrupt a high-ranking entity known as Secondus, leading to a schism within Mechanus. One faction swore loyalty to Orcus’s corrupted Secondus, while the other remained steadfast in their allegiance to Primus. This division led to an unprecedented internal war within Mechanus, one that briefly fractured its otherwise flawless order.

It is speculated that magic of Mechanus could be outside the current bounds of magic imposed since The Spellplague. Additionally Solonor has speculated that Mechanus holds insights into “The Cycle” a theory he has extensively documented, which posits that all planes, realms, and beings are caught in an unending loop of creation and destruction. Mechanus, in Solonor’s view, may hold the key to understanding and perhaps even breaking this cosmic cycle—a concept he associates with “The Engine.” He has mapped Mechanus’s arcane gears over a map of Karsus, noting a large central gear aligned with an island location, with other significant points marked at Sarrick’s Run and Alhadria.

Notably, Ironsoul, a member of The Savage Seven, originally hails from Mechanus.

During their downtime, Solonor and Sundara spent weeks in Mechanus exploring its intricate cities and landscapes. Sundara discovered she could commune with the entire plane, granting her the ability to create nearly any clockwork device she could imagine. For creations too complex, the modrons would silently obey her commands, completing her tasks before returning to their labor.

While on Mechanus, Solonor showed Sundara the meticulously planned cities designed by Karsus.

The plane itself exists in a perpetual state of golden light resembling sunrise or sunset, devoid of life, water, or a visible sun.
