Events

Moujin places the crown on Samugi’s head and black smoke crawls out of his eyes, enveloping him. His gaze momentarily turns vacant before a battle breaks out with the surrounding Hangul gnomes and a sickly-looking Elhorn. Samugi initially resists the crown’s influence, but it eventually overtakes him, and he begins attacking Varrick. During the chaotic fight, Varrick kills Moujin and snaps Elhorn’s neck despite the latter pleading for mercy. Afterwards, Vale releases a zombified creature tied to the boat, which starts devouring Elhorn’s corpse. The group retrieves a soul cage and a crumpled note from Elhorn’s body. Upon questioning, the soul inside the cage is revealed to belong to Cresnik One Eye, who expresses a desire for another chance to make a name for himself. Varrick and Vale suggest placing Cresnik’s soul into a clockwork construct, envisioning something akin to a more complete version of Beverly. The note appears to be from Heskell, offering comments on the difficulties Elhorn had been facing.

Varrick removes the cursed crown from Samugi and, in doing so, witnesses memories of him as King Chedon. Exploring the Hangul ship further, the group finds a collection of Elhorn’s belongings, revealing his clear intent to flee Langston.

The Remnants return to The Icebreaker and after commandeering another warship, begin flying back to New Calim. Along the way, Varrick throws Samugi’s cursed crown into the open ocean. Danny brings out a bottle of wine for a celebratory toast. Despite some initial awkwardness, the Remnants and their crew share a celebratory dinner on deck, where Vale gives an inspirational speech that the crew interprets in their own ways. During the dinner, the group discusses their next steps, and Vale suggests Sundara and herself use the planar travel device found among Elhorn’s belongings to explore the planes. Varrick considers this a good time to spend time with Sarah and Natasha.

Later that evening, Sundara invites Anastasia to visit The Icebreaker, and she arrives via the teleportation sigil. Anastasia apologizes for rejecting Sundara’s previous attempts at kindness, leaving Sundara momentarily stunned. Sundara introduces Anastasia to Allara, who casts Regeneration to restore Anastasia’s amputated right arm.

Meanwhile, Vale performs a complex ritual alone in the captain’s quarters, using his own blood. He calls upon The Traveler, but receives no immediate response.
