Blacktounge’s crew began mobilizing before sunrise.
Charles woke in an apparent panic and immediately disappeared toward Barrel Back Bill’s trading post before most of the encampment had stirred and before getting fully clothed. He returned carrying several cinderwicks.
Enoch spent the morning gathering intelligence from Vale regarding the prisoners taken during the fall of Conscriptus.
Isolde, Freya, one of my male cousins, and Father are currently imprisoned within Karsus under Tasha’s authority. The prison itself is referred to as Her Majesty’s Prison or HMP.
We identified two potential methods of infiltration. The first involves an arcane gate located within the Barracks District capable of transporting personnel directly into the prison structure. The second would require transport across the sea and a direct breach into the castle itself. Neither option could reasonably be described as easily survivable.
Mazarin later made contact with the proposed smuggler: a man named Cobb whom Gunner Ironford described simply as “a drunk.” Despite first impressions, Cobb proved surprisingly informed regarding the prison and the surrounding routes.
He confirmed the existence of the magical gate and outlined its likely operational procedures. Entering through it would require disguises, forged identities, or insertion as prisoners. The alternative, approaching by sea, would require avoiding coastal patrols, navigating unstable waters, and breaching a fortress designed specifically to repel invasion. Cobb claimed to possess both the vessel and the contacts necessary to attempt such a maneuver.
His fee reflected the risk appropriately: three thousand gold upfront and an additional fifteen hundred upon completion. More importantly, he claims to have an operative already positioned within the prison itself.
We debated our options for several hours before ultimately agreeing to proceed with Cobb’s route.
If Tasha has consolidated control over Conscriptus and Karsus simultaneously, then targeted disruption alone may no longer be sufficient. Releasing prisoners, particularly political prisoners and surviving Xalitheans, creates instability within her newly forming structure while simultaneously restoring potential allies to the field. A prison break large enough to fracture internal order may accomplish more strategically than a simple extraction.
We departed aboard Cobb’s vessel, the Icebreaker, accompanied by an automaton called One-Eyed Kresnik. The construct speaks little, moves with unnerving precision, and appears heavily modified for combat and navigation alike. .
No fortress is unassailable. No bloodline untouchable. Recent weeks have proven that thoroughly.
