Transit through the portal was immediate and structurally stable. We emerged into a demiplanar construct floating islands anchored by arcane means. The design reflects coordinated effort between specialized arcanists the Shattered Covenant. I have encountered references to similar environments: skybound isles known for isolation. This appears to be a refinement of that concept. Functional. Concealed. Difficult to besiege.
Marrion assumed guidance of our crew without hesitation. The population is varied but there is structure beneath the appearance of autonomy. We were directed to a white temple for recovery. A tiefling cleric, sworn to the Raven Queen, administered restorative rites, healing us.
From there, we were brought to a northern hall where a council had already convened. At its center stood Issa, a drow bearing an eyepatch, and Waylan, a dwarf of measured presence. The Shattered Covenant, is a distributed network, multiple chapters operating across Mordunn, embedded within contested regions. Their objective is to destabilize with precision: to arm conflicting factions, to influence conflict without owning it, and to ensure that when fractures occur, they benefit those outside centralized authority. Controlled chaos, as they termed it.
NOTE: Accounts from those present indicate that Charles initiated a confrontation with June shortly after arrival. The exchange began with tension but the situation did not devolve into violence. Charles had additional interactions with an artificer identified as MB, a Hangul gnome, who provided additional context regarding cursed armaments and pact-bound weapons. MB’s explanations suggest that such items are not merely tools, but conduits requiring exchange with demon lords or devils. This may be directly relevant to Charles’ weapon.
The remainder of the interval was allocated to recovery and integration. Supplies were acquired through a figure identifying himself as Otiluke, whose tendency toward self-aggrandizing narrative does not fully obscure his utility. A baker operating under the name Knuckle Bones provides sustenance.
Mazarin pursued alterations to her attire under MB’s guidance, citing a desire to abandon the visual markers of imperial affiliation.
There is, however, a fracture within the structure of The Shattered Covenant. Information suggests the presence of a mole within the sanctuary. If accurate, this undermines the very principle upon which the network depends. A system built on selective trust cannot tolerate internal compromise without consequence.
