Impression

Yedan Neric is a difficult man to take the measure of. He keeps his voice low and his manner mild, but there’s something in his stillness that reads less like calm and more like concerning calculation. I cannot quite determine his aim, whether he is simply guarded or perpetually playing at something beneath the surface. Of all of us, he seems most at ease with Charles, and Charles with him. I do not yet know if that is cause for comfort or concern.

Known Record

From what I can gather, Yedan once took part in a rebellion against the Empire, though in what capacity remains unclear. After that, he lived for a time as a waged worker in Verdania. His history is riddled with inconsistencies. There is a marking or tattoo on his hand, the meaning of which no one seems inclined to explain.

When we stood before The Oracle, he asked after certain people but seemed dissatisfied, perhaps unsettled, by the answer he received. He refers to a shadowy presence that follows him as “Strings,” and treats it as though it were an old companion. That shadow was with him until the end. In The Sanctiforge, his mind was consumed by mind flayers, and he died. We buried him according to the local customs. Among his effects was a necklace-amulet containing the face of a woman.

NOTE (Editorial Addenda)

Sources indicate that “Strings” is a tangible entity bound to Yedan. A psychometrist reading Prince Alexi Faraday’s spellbook saw a similar shadow slay King and Queen Faraday, only to be banished by Alexi before it could kill him as well. Evidence suggests this was the same entity, now housed within Yedan Neric.
